Urban Decay Liquid Liner, $18

(Urban Decay Liquid Liner in Ecstasy and Roach)

Oh Urban Decay, how I adore your eye makeup. Urban Decay Liquid Liner is a fantastic liquid eyeliner with intense color and metallic shimmer, bringing an unexpected "pop" to your eyes. The long handle and thin paint brush applicator make application easy. I grab the handle and give it a good shake before using, just to make sure the brush has a ton of product on it. The liner (and all the shimmery lovely goodness) stays in place, too. It comes in 13 colors that complement their eyeshadows.

(Ecstasy)

Ecstasy is a beautifully bright and vibrant purple, perfect for attention-grabbing, party-lovin' makeup fun.

Wearing: Urban Decay Liquid Liner in Ecstasy, Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion in Original, Urban Decay Eyeshadow in Grifter (available in the Urban Ammo Eye Palette), CoverGirl Perfect Point Plus eye pencil in black onyx, and Maybelline Full 'N Soft mascara in very black

(Roach)

Roach is a deep copper with just a hint of metallic, perfect for subtly dressing up neutrals and adding a bit of interest to a traditionally plainer color.

Wearing: Urban Decay Liquid Liner in Roach, Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion in Original, Urban Decay Eyeshadow in Chopper (available in the Urban Ammo Eye Palette), CoverGirl Perfect Point Plus eye pencil in black onyx, and Maybelline Full 'N Soft mascara in very black

Final verdict
Cost: $18 is a good price for the quality product you get. Believe me, it lasts a long time!
Color: The colors are bright, intense, metallic, and shimmery--those are some awesome adjectives there. And, if you're not into shimmer, they also have a normal black.
Application: I'm a big fan of the paint brush-like feel of the handle. The liner is thick so you don't need a precise hand to get it right.
Repeat offender: Urban Decay is pretty much always a repeat offender. I really want to get Oil Slick, shimmery black, or Shattered, metallic teal. If I run out of these I'd probably get more, but I've had them for a while and they're still pretty full!

  1. Both look great--the brown would be a lot more useful for everyday--though the name? Blech. Do you find that it doesn't smudge much/at all/a lot?

How would you say this compares to the Clinique liquid liner in a pot you reviewed a while back? I was considering getting that product, but if this one comes with its own little brush, I might be swayed.

  2. Hi Lynda,
It really doesn't smudge unless you rub your eyes or anywhere near water--it's not waterproof at all. It stays clean under normal circumstances, although it might start to flake at the very end of the day. I think the primer might help with that.

In comparison to the Clinique creme eyeliner: I'd say that the Clinique stuff is a softer look--the line itself is less sharp, which has to do with the nature of the cream vs. liquid. It's still dramatic, but it's more like a deep shadow, less like an inky line (as the Urban Decay liquid eyeliner is). Also, the Clinique eyeliner is waterproof--much more staying power. And I don't know if this is due to my inability, but I found it hard to do the Urban Decay liquid liner underneath my eyes (it got all over my lower lashes).

So, they're a little different. I'd say that this one is probably easier to apply, and comes in awesome fun colors, but won't last in all situations. The Clinique one is a little more difficult but is easier for me for the lower lashes, and is waterproof.

    Hope this helps!
